Taking what they learned from the recording experience at Pine Road Studio, Grit City Grass decided to take this next project into their own hands. With the desire of wanting to learn more about the recording process, J.W. took the job of engineering Day’s We Turned To Years. It was not easy to say the least. Many long hours and nights learning the ends and outs of new equipment and software programs. So the band got set up and started recording tracks. The things they learned about themselves and how music works was amazing.
Despite the effort J.W. wasn’t getting the sound he was hoping for. Outside help was needed and boy did it come in a great way. Brandon Johnson just so happened to be friends with a great bluegrass engineer, none other than Ron Rice. For those that don’t know, he is the brother of the great Tony Rice. Anybody that knows bluegrass knows that Tony Rice is one of the best bluegrass guitarist that ever lived.
It was an honor to meet Ron and be able to learn from him the in’s and out’s of recording, mixing and mastering a CD project. J.W. and Ron worked out a way to communicate with each other and J.W. followed Ron’s mixing techniques and learned a great deal. Many thanks go out to Ron and his expertise and for mastering the final project.
