Broken Bluegrass Boy was a song written by inspiration of a true story. Looking to make it in Nashville Tennessee, J.W. Brown came across an old man playing guitar on the sidewalk on Main Street. He was sitting on an old bar stool and was just playing for people walking up and down the street. He had his guitar case open for people to throw tips in as they walked by. The old man made enough money to eat on and played a lot of songs about his lost love. Not long after having a long conversation with this man, J.W. returned to Virginia and later wrote Broken Bluegrass Boy. It’s still a favorite to many people.
